International Day For Monuments And Sites
The International Day for Monuments and Sites is held on April 18 each year around the world. The aim is to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage, the vulnerability of sites and monuments, and the efforts required for their protection and conservation.
History
The Day was proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on April 18, 1982, and approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.
The first IDMS was held in 2001 with the theme Save our Historic Villages. The day is supported by organizations such as the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
